Gael Clichy’s future at Manchester City may be coming to an end after it was revealed that the club has allocated manager Pep Guardiola a sum of £ 20 million in order to find a suitable left back.
The former Arsenal defender moved to the Etihad stadium in the summer of 2011 for around £ 7 million. Even though there were several who vindicated the move, Clichy has shown that it was probably the right decision considering that he has won the Premier League twice since moving to Manchester.
Now, though, his time at the club could be coming to an end just as they prepare for a great era under Guardiola. The club went to considerable lengths in order to get the Spaniard from Bayern Munich once it was clear that he was going to leave the German club.
Likewise, Guardiola was always going to change several aspects of the City team including the way they play. Despite the changes, Clichy has been able to get some favour and game time in the first team.He has made a nine appearances in the league this season, but it seems that the decision has been made in order to sign a new left back with the club having already signed Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Jesus for £ 27 million.
Schalke 04's SeadKolasinac and Benfica's Alex Grimaldo have been viewed as alternatives and they could potentially arrive as early as in the January transfer window. Spanish teenager Angelino is also in the books, and may being given a chance to impress first-team just as Guardiola has given a number of youngsters a chance while at Barcelona and at Bayern Munich.
