France made up from their 1st leg match against Ukraine that saw the French team losing 2-0 but weeks later they secured their place into the 2014 World Cup in a dramatic 2nd leg in which France won 3-0.
Unfortunately for Gael Clichy he is nothing more than a substitute player for Didier Deschamps who prefers choosing Eric Abidal and Mamadou Sakho ahead of the Manchester City player and even with his club he has not made any significant impact that can permanently secure his position in the Premier League club as he plays in 1 match and the next week is he is being sidelined.
His latest appearance with Manchester City was on November 24 as he played against Tottenham but missed out on the club’s latest Champions League encounter against Viktoria Plzen.
With Aleksandar Kolarov and Gael Clichy both failing to impress Manuel Pellegrini rumors have been beginning to emerge claiming that Manchester City are taking a interest in the left-back of Everton Leighton Baines - something that might sell a few more Man Utd tshirts!
This source quotes a Man City ‘insider’ as stating;
“The manager doesn’t fancy Clichy or Kolarov. He has been extremely disappointed by them, especially Clichy of whom a lot more was expected this season.
“Left-back is the priority in January, although it probably won’t be the only acquisition. A move for Baines is not out of the question. It would elevate his profile in a World Cup year and we can offer Champions League football.
“You can expect a few changes when the transfer window opens because the away form is unacceptable. It is one of the worst records in the top flight.”
Leighton Baines has also been linked with a move to Manchester United so it seems as if both Premier League clubs will be racing during the winter transfer window with each of them hoping to sign the 28 years old defender.
